Imperial was first selected in a temperate low-chill environment of Central Chile, but has performed best in the tropical environment of Peru. This variety does not develop endo-dormancy, allowing it to break buds without chilling hours.
Imperial has been tested in-ground and in soilless containers. The fruit of Imperial is very large, with many fruits exceeding 19 mm, positioning Imperial as a high-impact release in the Mighty Blues lineup. Additionally, Imperial’s flat-shaped berries exhibit exceptional firmness, appearance, and eating quality.
First trials of Imperial in the USA were planted in spring 2025 across key growing regions in Florida and Georgia.
